HEAD OVER HEELS

by Timothy Reckart / 2 years ago

http://www.headoverheels.tv “Of the animated shorts, [Head Over Heels is] the cleverest.” -Stephen Holden, The New York Times “The attention to detail is staggering, particularly for a stop-motion animated movie… There may be an impressive crop of animated shorts this year, but Head Over Heels is the most fully realized of the whole bunch. Flawless.” -William Bibbiani, CraveOnline.com “This beautifully animated film is also a wonderfully unique story… Both whimsical and deeply felt… Simply extraordinary.” -Richard Propes, theindependentcritic.com “The true charmer of the screening… The understated nature of the central couple’s struggle calls for repeat viewing.” -Ben Mitchell, skwigly.co.uk

Based in Canada, designer Thibault Sld explores the realm where “geometry, light, mechanisms and interaction collide,” by creating interactive displays and lights that respond to exterior input. One of his most captivating ideas is Hexi, an interactive array of 60 hexagonal modules embedded with mechanical servos that use data from a nearby depth camera to physically respond to nearby motion. It would be amazing to see an entire room or hallway covered in something like this. You can learn more over on his website, or watch the video above to see it in motion. (via Designboom)

Awesome Spray Painted Illusion of a Hovering Tree Cut in Half

Awesome Spray Painted Illusion of a Hovering Tree Cut in Half

Graphic designer Daniel Siering and art director Mario Schuster (aka Mario Shu) have taken a solitary tree in Potsdam, Germany and transformed it into a split, hovering trunk with nothing more than some paint and tin foil. To create the illusion, Siering and Shu wrapped a section of the tree in foil and proceeded to spray paint it in the likeness of the surrounding environment. From the precise angle, the tree looks as though it is floating in mid-air.

The artistic duo, who happen to be co-workers at ART-EFX (a company focused on creating innovative commercial art and classical landscapes), have teamed up on this fun, personal project and gained a great deal of attention from it already. Though there’s little information beyond their names, the city the tree is located in, and the minimal materials used, there’s also not much that needs to be said about Check out the short video, below, to see just how effective the illusion is as joggers pass by in the background.via [this isn’t happiness]
